The Wisconsin Barbering and Cosmetology Examining Board will issue your license and you must complete a certain number of training hours in order to test. An apprenticeship is acceptable preparation for a Cosmetology Licensing exam. Pearson Vue administers the tests in English only.

You must complete the following hours to test for a Wisconsin license:

– Cosmetology – 1800 Hours or 4000 Apprenticeship Hours
– Cosmetology Instructor – You must have your Cosmetology License,150 Hours of additional training and 2000 Hours of work experience.
– Nail Technician – 300 Hours
– Esthetician – 450 Hours
– Electrolosis – 450 Hours
– Massage – 600 Hours

All licenses must be renewed bi-annually in March of odd numbered years like 2013 and 2015. Renewals cost about $82. If you renew late, there is a $25 fee. You don’t have to complete any additional CEU credits to renew your license; however, customers are always interested in the newest trends in beauty and personal care, so taking continuing education classes is essential to your success in these trades. In addition, Wisconsin might change its policy and start requiring CEU credits for certain license renewals before January 2016.
