There are cosmetology schools in Oklahoma that will teach you how to care for the skin, the hair, and the body. Most of your classes and part of your license testing will be hands on, in order to equip you to work in the field. You will have to get used to carrying your own tools including beauty, skin, massage and hair equipment along with disinfection supplies. Here is a list of cosmetology schools in Oklahoma:

Cosmetologists Licensing in Oklahoma

Once you have completed your required training hours, you will be allowed to test for a cosmetology license. Once you pass your board exams, you will receive your license from the State of Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology. Here are the credits you will need to be eligible to test:

– Cosmetology – 1500 Hours
– Cosmetology Instructor – You must have your license and complete an additional 1000 Hours of training.
– Nail Technician – 600 Hours
– Esthetician – 600 Hours
– Massage Therapist – Each municipality has its own basic requirements.

All cosmetology licenses must be renewed yearly during your birthday month. Renewals cost $25 and you don’t have to attain any additional CEU credits to renew. However, continuing education is something you should make sure to do at least every other year, just to make sure that you know how to provide the services your clients are going to want.

The fee to transfer your license to Oklahoma from another state is $65. If your state’s training requirements are equal to or greater than the Oklahoma requirements, or if you have three years of licensed cosmetology experience, you will be asked to take the board exams to attain your license. If you have both the training and the experience, after paying your fees, you might receive your Oklahoma license right away. If you have neither the training nor the experience, the board will ask you to complete more training hours before you test. The number of hours you must complete are determined on a case-by-case basis.
