Cosmetologist License Requirements in New Jersey

The New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology requires that you attend a licensed cosmetology school in order to receive your license. You will need to also pass the written examinations that are offered by the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology upon your successful completion of a program. To obtain a cosmetologist or hairstyling license, you will need to complete 1,200 hours of instruction and training. An esthetician license will require that you complete 600 hours of instruction and training.

You will need to renew a cosmetologist license every two years in New Jersey. The cost of renewing a license is $60.

Job and Employment Outlook for Cosmetologists in New Jersey

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, cosmetologists can expect to earn an average salary of $28,120 in New Jersey. Manicurists and pedicurists can earn an average salary of $21,700 in New Jersey.
