The typical Montana cosmetology instructor training program takes about one year to complete. You may choose to pursue a part-time program if you are currently supporting yourself or working as a cosmetologist. Licensing Requirements for Cosmetology Instructors in Montana

The Montana State Board of Cosmetology requires that you have a license to practice as a cosmetology instructor. You must also have a current cosmetologist license and gain at least 650 training hours in an approved cosmetology instructor training program. In addition, the Board also requires that you have at least one year of active work experience before enrolling in a cosmetology program. You must renew a cosmetology instructor license every two years in Montana for a fee of $95. Every year, as a cosmetology instructors, you are required to earn 30 continuing education credits. This means that instructors must have a total of 60 continuing education credits before renewing a license. A total of 10 continuing education credits may be earned by attending trade shows.
