Overview of Barbering Schools and Curriculum in Mississippi

Expect to learn many things in school like sanitation, hygiene, handling tools, chemical hair straightening and curling techniques, hair cutting, shaving, bleaching, trimming the beard, tinting hair, dyeing hair and the proper use of hair tonics and the superficial effects they will provide. Barbering Licensing Requirements in Mississippi

You must complete 1500 hours of training in order to test for your Barber’s License. You must complete 1516 hours of training to test for your Master Barber’s License. Once you have completed your training, and have passed your test, the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology will issue your license and you must renew your license every two years.

If you are a Master Barber, you have to complete 18 CEU Credit Hours in order to renew. As a regular barber practitioner, you don’t have to attain any additional CEU credits; however, the most successful barbers stay current on modern trends by taking periodic continuing education classes.

If you would like to work as a barber practitioner, but you’re licensed in another state, you can receive a Mississippi license. You must first have the state you are currently licensed in, send proof of your licensure directly to the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology. Then the board will schedule a credentialing interview with you. Transfer licenses are determined on a case by case basis.
