School Accreditation

You must attend a school that is approved by your state to provide training in the discipline you want to practice. Check with the school and the state board to be sure that your program of study will prepare you for any applicable state licensure.

Established instructors will help you learn how to create lesson plans, develop a curriculum, serve as a mentor for students and excel in using the most innovative teaching methodologies. You can learn how to build a team-oriented classroom in which students work together to excel as cosmetologists.

In addition, you will gain practical experience in managing students within a clinical salon setting. You may guide students as they perform haircuts and color processing services for clients. You can inspire, motivate and encourage students as they work toward becoming licensed cosmetologists. Ultimately, you will help prepare students for passing their written state board examinations and performance exams. The Minnesota cosmetology instructor training programs take about one year to complete, and there may be part-time or evening program options available, depending on your preference and the school you choose.
