School Accreditation

You must attend a school that is approved by your state to provide training in the discipline you want to practice. Check with the school and the state board to be sure that your program of study will prepare you for any applicable state licensure.

Many of the massage therapy schools will give you the choice to either enroll as a full-time or part-time student, so the time it takes for you to complete your training may vary.  Often times, you will be able to finish in as little as seven months.

Massage Therapy Licensing Requirements in Louisiana

After you have completed your training from an approved massage therapy school in Louisiana, you should first send your official transcript to the Louisiana Board of Massage Therapy. At this time, you are eligible to sit for one of the approved national exams such as the MBLEx or the NCCAOM which the Louisiana Board of Massage Therapy requires that you pass in order to become licensed. You will also be expected to pay a $75 application fee and pass a criminal background check.

In order to stay current on new massage therapy techniques, Louisiana requires that you complete a minimum of 12 hours in continued education.  This can include online home study and instruction courses.
