A barber license requires 900 hours of training. The Idaho Board of Cosmetology requires that students pass a written examination upon their completion of a cosmetology program. Students are not required to complete continuing education credits in order to retain their cosmetology licenses. It is helpful for students to take continuing education classes if they wish to refine their skills and learn the latest cosmetology techniques.

Students will need to renew their license every year on the date of their birthday. The Idaho Board of Cosmetology imposes a fee of $20 to renew a cosmetology license.
