Nail Technician Licensing Requirements in Hawaii

Upon graduating from a nail technician education program, aspiring nail technicians are required to pass a state licensing exam. When applying to take the exam, applicants will need to verify with the state that they have completed the required 700 hours of study, which is typically covered by attending and graduating from a state-approved nail technician school or institute. Hawaii does not currently require licensed technicians to complete continuing education in order to remain active; however, nail technicians must pay a $100 renewal fee every two years to keep their license up to date. It is important to note that Hawaii does not offer a reciprocity agreement to licensed nail technicians who come to Hawaii from other states. Upon showing proof of a comparable license that has been granted by the applicant’s home state, the applicant will then be required to take Hawaii’s licensing exam.
