As a cosmetology school student, you will definitely learn how to care for and style both male and female hair. As a barber student, you will learn to style and care for male hair exclusively. In other aspects of the industry, you will learn how to care for and design nails, how to care for and do special treatments on the skin and, in the case of massage, how to help and heal the body itself.
In addition to these things, you will learn other things including sanitation, business practices and professional presentation.
Overview of AZ Cosmetology Schools
If you’d like to become an instructor, you might not have to complete the additional training hours if you can show your proof of license and proof that you have worked for five years professionally in your field within 10 years time. If the board agrees that your experience is equivalent to what you would learn in training, you can simply take your exams and if you pass, receive your instructor’s license.
You must attend a school that is approved by your state to provide training in the discipline you want to practice. Check with the school and the state board to be sure that your program of study will prepare you for any applicable state licensure.
All personal care professionals must renew their licenses every year before their birthday through the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology. Renewals cost $30 and you are not required to take any additional classes. However, if you do not keep up with current trends within the industry, your career might suffer, so it’s a good idea to take at least one or two classes every year.
If you are from out of state and want to work in Arizona, you must show proof that you have a valid license for the field you would like to work in. You can obtain a license if you graduated from a school that offered a curriculum equivalent to or greater than the accredited schools in Arizona. You must also complete the application for reciprocity, pass the state tests and pay the fees.
