Required Barbering Courses in Georgia Barbering Schools

With a Georgia barber license, you can work in any licensed barber shop in the state.

There are two levels of barbering licensure in this state. To become a barber II, you must complete 1,500 hours of training. Your training does not have to include chemical services and procedures. To become a master barber, you must go through 1,500 hours of training with a curriculum that includes chemical hair services. All licensing goes through the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.

Georgia Barber Training and License Requirements

The licensing process in Georgia is the same for barber II candidates and master barber candidates. Once you’ve gone through your education, you can submit proof of training hours to the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers. You can then schedule your written and practical exams through PSI. After you earn passing scores on both exams, you can get your barbering license in GA.

  • Testing costs: $58 written test fee and $89 practical test fee
  • Accepted payment methods: Check or money order; testing fees also payable by credit card
  • License/application fees: $30 application fee
  • Apprenticeship options: 3,000 apprenticeship hours required to become barber II or master barber

Requirements for Renewing Your Barber License in Georgia

With your Georgia barbering license, you can work for up to two years in an approved facility. All licensing documents must be submitted by December 31 in every even-numbered year. The state of Georgia requires that you earn five continuing education credits during each two-year cycle. Three of your credits must come from health and safety courses. The other two can come from any other area of barbering. The license renewal fee in Georgia is $50, but it doubles to $100 if you submit your documents after December 31.
